Opening of Arctic Economic Council secretariat in Tromsø

The Chair of SCPAR participated in a panel at the opening of the new secretariat for the Arctic Economic Council in Tromsø September 8, 2015.

The Arctic Economic Council (AEC) was established last year during the Canadian Chairmanship of the Arctic Council. The AEC is to facilitate closer cooperation between companies operating in the Arctic, and be a preferred partner for the Arctic Council for a dialogue on business development in the Arctic.

In his interventions Mr. Sivertsen underlined the importance of CSR for companies operating in the Arctic:

-  I look forward to a dialogue with the AEC in a number of areas when it comes to business development in the Arctic, Mr. Sivertsen says. He continues:

- CSR is potentially very important for getting the right balance between the interest of the local people and the businesses operating in the Arctic. Energy, new technology and infrastructure development are other topics where I look forward to a continued cooperation with the AEC, says Mr Sivertsen.
