SCPAR addresses the situation of RAIPON

At the meeting of SCPAR in Enare 13 November 2012 the Standing Committee agreed to address the legal situation of RAIPON.

In a letter SCPAR notes that the future and legal status for the Russian Assosiation of Indigenous Peoples of the North (RAIPON) in the Russian society is questioned. SCPAR underlines the importance of the indigenous peoples in the Arctic cooperation and the role RAIPON has played in advocating the interest of the Russian Northern peoples, nationally and internationally.

SCPAR asked the Russian delegation to SCPAR to encourage the Ministry of Justice and RAIPON to work together to solve potential legal issues and find a solution to the problem.
